Short Answer
No
Safety Summary
- ✔ Safe: No — chameleons are insectivores
- ⚠ Use caution: Won't eat it; potential digestive upset
- ✖ Toxic: Not directly, but acidic and inappropriate
Why
Chameleons are strict insectivores and have no nutritional use for tomatoes or any vegetable/fruit. They will not eat tomatoes, and even if they consumed some accidentally, the acidity and sugar could cause digestive upset. The exception is veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) which sometimes nibble on plant matter — but even then, acidic tomatoes are not a good choice. Feed only appropriately sized, gut-loaded, dusted feeder insects.
Portion Guidance
None. Feed only insects.
Risks & Symptoms
- Acidity: digestive irritation if consumed
- No toxicity in small amounts
- Rotting tomato in enclosure: hygiene and fruit fly issues
